The application of the River Continuum Concept (RCC) on the headwaters of the Sampolawa River in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia

Benthic aquatic insect communities temperate regions have been used as bioindicators a healthy forest stream headwaters.This research analyzes abundance benthic insects, quality water and nutrient sediment, response community River. samples were collected using stratified random sampling methods with Surber sampler 30 cm x cm, 5 segmented streams, 200 m 4 replication. results show that 19 species feeding groups found, including collector filters, gatherers, predators, scrapers, shredders. However, shredders is very small, at about 2-4 %. dominance by filter 29 % reflected input from terrestrial vegetation Fine Particulate Organic Matter (FPOM). Therefore, it can be deduced do not fit prediction "River (RCC)"for typical headwater since allochthonous energy supply riparian form fine detritus.
